Extreme Rise of the Triad maps

Posted on October 2nd, 2012 @ 4:08 pm by Zerker

Following the main game levels, the next obvious set of maps is none other than Rise of the Triad Extreme (aka EROTT). EROTT was originally an expansion for ROTT, but it has since been released as freeware and can be obtained from 3DRealms.

For more details and notes, please see the Hunt Begins maps.

Rise of the Triad: The Hunt Begins maps

Posted on September 30th, 2012 @ 12:52 pm by Zerker

After generating the Ultima maps, I thought it would be a cool idea to map something that hasn’t been done yet. I was inspired by DarkWolf’s Wolfenstein 3D maps and Ian’s Doom Maps and decided to create isometric maps of Rise of the Triad. Rise of the Triad is moderately well documented, and the source code is available, so I figured it would be a fun little project.

Well, a month or so later it’s done. Enjoy. I’m starting with the Shareware levels, and will upload the Dark War levels, Comm-bat levels, Extreme ROTT levels, etc. later. See below the maps for a zip download option as well as map notes.

If you are interested in trying the game, you can grab the Shareware Version from 3D Realms. The full version can be found either there or at GOG.com. There are a few source ports of ROTT floating around, but they didn’t feel quite right to me. I recommend just playing it in DOSBox. The default DOSBox settings should play the game just fine, but you may want to edit the .conf file and increase the mouse sensitivity. The in-game sensitivity adjustment does not go very high.

Ultima VII Part 2: Serpent Isle maps

Posted on September 30th, 2012 @ 6:45 am by Zerker

And the last of my Ultima Maps, Serpent Isle. These were generated using the exact same process as the Ultima 7 maps, and are just as large (although they compress better to ~60 MB). Due to the patchwork nature of Serpent Isle, the exterior view doesn’t provide nearly the clean view that the Ultima 7 map provides, but it is included nevertheless. I still recommend downloading for viewing and having > 2 GB of ram.

The maps are also available at VGMaps.

Ultima VII: The Black Gate maps

Posted on September 29th, 2012 @ 11:38 am by Zerker

Next are two full maps of Ultima VII: The Black Gate. One map shows the map as you see it in the game, the other shows the map with the roofs/mountain tops removed to see the contents of houses and dungeons. Enjoy!

Note that these maps are full scale, which means they are immense! 24576 x 24576 pixels, 85-90 MB file size. I recommend more than 2 GB of ram for viewing these. It may also be beneficial to save directly to your hard drive rather than viewing in a web browser.

These maps were created using Exult. Exult has a command-line mode to generate maps such as these, except it generates 16 x 16 tiles of the map. I created another simple script using ImageMagick to stitch them all together.

The maps are also available at VGMaps.

Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams maps

Posted on September 28th, 2012 @ 5:28 pm by Zerker

It should come as no surprise that the next set of maps after Savage Empire is Martian Dreams. These maps were generated using the same process as the Savage Empire maps.

As before, the maps are also available at VGMaps.

For anyone wondering about Ultima VI: The False Prophet, I recommend you check out Ian Albert’s page for those maps.

Ultima Worlds of Adventure: Savage Empire maps

Posted on September 25th, 2012 @ 6:44 pm by Zerker

Recently, I’ve been messing around with generating some maps of a variety of old PC games. Today I’m uploading the maps from Ultima Worlds of Adventure: Savage Empire. Without further pre-amble, here are the maps (full-sized versions are linked from each map).

These maps were generated via two tools. The main Valley of Eodon map was generated directly from Ultimatrix.

The Dungeon Maps were viewed in pu6e. For each map, I took a series of 8 2048×1024 screenshots of the map. I then stitched the maps together using a simple shell script to get ImageMagick to do the work for me.

The maps are also available at VGMaps.
